Previous studies and reports have found that elections can cause stress among voters, leading to a deterioration in their mental health. However, few studies have delved into the impact on other diseases. This study utilizes the changes in the number of elected township and district council members caused by the administrative restructuring of counties and cities into municipalities in 2010, along with data from the National Health Insurance Database, using the difference-in-differences method to analyze the impact of changes in the number of elected seats on voters' health status. This study examines the impact of changes in elected seats on voters' health status both before and after the election. The estimation results reveal that, before the election, regions with a significant reduction in elected seats experienced an increase in the number of medical visits and expenses related to cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases, digestive system diseases, headaches, and mental illnesses. After the election, regions with a significant reduction in elected seats saw an increase in the number of medical visits and expenses for cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases, digestive system diseases, and mental illnesses. Additionally, the impact of changes in elected seats varies significantly across different age groups and genders.
