本研究探討英文字幕與中文字幕對臺灣英語為外語學習者在聽力理解與字彙習得方面的影響。參與者為 60 位英語程度為中等的大學一年級學生,分為兩組:一組觀看帶有英文字幕的影片,另一組則觀看帶有中文字幕的影片。研究採用混合方法,結合聽力測驗、字彙測驗及學習態度問卷。
研究結果顯示,在聽力理解方面,觀看中文字幕的學生表現優於英文字幕組,特別是在面對語速快或生字多的內容時。相對地,英文字幕組在字彙習得上顯著優於中文字幕組,有助於加強學習者對單字的拼字與語意理解。兩組學習者皆對字幕使用表現出正面態度,其中中文字幕提升了學習信心與動機,而英文字幕則有助於單字辨識與內容理解。研究建議教師可依據學習者的語言程度與教學目標,靈活運用字幕作為輔助工具,初期使用中文字幕協助理解,進階階段則轉向英文字幕以強化語言輸入與學習成效。 
英文摘要
 This study investigates the effects of English captions and Chinese subtitles on the listening comprehension and vocabulary acquisition of Taiwanese EFL learners. Sixty university freshmen with intermediate English proficiency participated in the study and were divided into two groups: one watched video with English captions, and the other with Chinese subtitles. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining listening and vocabulary tests with attitude questionnaires. Results showed that learners who watched videos with Chinese subtitles outperformed those who used English captions in listening comprehension, especially when encountering fast speech or unfamiliar vocabulary. Conversely, English captions significantly enhanced vocabulary acquisition by reinforcing the connection between spoken and written English. Learners expressed generally positive attitudes toward both types of subtitles. Chinese subtitles boosted confidence and motivation, while English captions supported vocabulary recognition and content understanding.  The findings suggest that Chinese subtitles serve as effective scaffolding for comprehension, whereas English captions promote vocabulary development.
