美國與台灣的關係歷史悠久，然而，在冷戰時期，美國對台灣的關注相對較少，更著重於與中共大陸的合作。台灣面臨著來自中共大陸的嚴重威脅，必須在大國之間保持平衡，確保自身的安全和發展。美國外交政策的演變也影響著美中台三方的關係。歐巴馬總統提出了「重返亞洲」戰略，而川普總統則更加強調「美國優先」，導致美中關係緊張升級，進一步影響了全球的地緣政治格局。
本研究針對川普總統後期到拜登總統前期（2016-2023年），美台關係的變化與臺灣的角色。研究結果指出，地緣戰略挑戰使得台灣面臨前所未有的壓力，尤其是來自中共大陸的壓力。台灣必須堅持外交多元化，積極拓展與其他國家的外交關係，並加強與美國的安全合作，以提升自身的國防實力。同時，台灣還應加強與其他亞太國家的合作，構建更加緊密的地區安全網絡。此外，台灣需要注重改善與中共大陸的關係，尋求和平解決兩岸分歧的途徑。另外，研究者提出，在地緣政治策略上，臺灣可以借鑒新加坡的經驗，主張「和平中立」和「等距平衡」的外交策略，保持中立立場，並保持對兩大國的平衡。此外，臺灣應加強與美國的合作，提升自身在國際上的地位和影響力。最後，解決台海問題需要全球合作，特別是美國及其他國家的支持和推動。只有通過對話和談判，才能實現台海地區的和平穩定。

The relationship between the United States and Taiwan has a long history. However, during the Cold War, the U.S. paid relatively less attention to Taiwan, focusing more on cooperation with mainland China. After the Cold War, with the rise of China, the U.S. re-recognized the importance of the Taiwan issue in its foreign policy, strengthening its support for Taiwan. Taiwan faces severe threats from mainland China and must balance itself among major powers to ensure its own security and development. The evolution of U.S. foreign policy also affects the trilateral relations among the U.S., China, and Taiwan. During the Cold War, the U.S. relied heavily on China, but as China rose, the U.S. began adjusting its policy towards China, seeking a balance between cooperation and competition. The Obama administration proposed the "Pivot to Asia" strategy, while the Trump administration emphasized "America First," leading to escalating tensions in U.S.-China relations and further affecting the global geopolitical landscape.

This study focuses on the changes in U.S.-Taiwan relations and Taiwan's role from the late Trump administration to the early Biden administration (2020-2023). The results indicate that geopolitical challenges have placed unprecedented pressure on Taiwan, especially from mainland China. Taiwan must adhere to diplomatic diversification, actively expand diplomatic relations with other countries, and strengthen security cooperation with the U.S. to enhance its defense capabilities. Additionally, Taiwan should strengthen cooperation with other Asia-Pacific countries to build a closer regional security network. Taiwan also needs to improve its relations with mainland China, seeking peaceful ways to resolve cross-strait differences. The researchers suggest that, in terms of geopolitical strategy, Taiwan can learn from Singapore's experience, advocating for a "peaceful neutrality" and "equidistant balancing" diplomatic strategy to maintain a neutral stance and balance between the two major powers. Moreover, Taiwan should enhance cooperation with the U.S. to elevate its status and influence in the international community. Finally, resolving the Taiwan Strait issue requires global cooperation, particularly the support and promotion from the U.S. and other countries. Only through dialogue and negotiation can peace and stability be achieved in the Taiwan Strait region.
