This thesis provides an object reading of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go, to investigate the manipulative function of fetishism, aura, and mistaken thinking. This study also further examines how the protagonists gradually turn their ideal world into disillusionment under the influence of objects.

Chapter One, The Fetishism of Objects, focuses on how the objects (cassette and clones’ arts) seize Kathy and Madame’s mind and make them fetishists. By comprehending the process of becoming fetishists; it is obvious that they indeed have a craving for the objects.

Chapter Two, The Aura of Objects, examines how the aura of reproduction affects the correlation between Kathy and Madame. With the trait of aura, Kathy also discovers that there exists an unequal relationship between clones and society.

Chapter Three, The Mistaken Thinking evoked by Objects, will continue the issues in Chapter One and Two. These two chapters claim that not only the objects make Kathy and Madame fetishists, but also they have an unequal relationship with each other. Even worse, their thoughts are twisted by the objects again. So, this chapter will explore how these two objects (artworks and clones) contort Kathy’s and Madame’s thought, which brings about their ideal world gradually breaks down in the end.

In analyzing of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go, the issues of the fetishism of object, the aura of object, and the mistaken thinking evoked by object point out that how the objects in the story capture their mind, disclose the unequal relation between them, and twist their thought, which also shows if it is fair that the society regard clones as objects and human being live together with them.
