This study mainly explores the filtering characteristics of geotextiles under uniaxial or biaxial tensile strain. For the four kinds of fabrics under unstretched and uniaxial strains of 5%, 10%, 20%, and 25%, and biaxial strains of 4%, 10%, and 20%, measure the thickness of the fabrics to obtain porosity. The water permeability was measured in a constant head test, and the results of this experiment were compared with Giroud's (1996) empirical formula. The opening pore size distribution test is measured by capillary flow porometry. It is necessary to understand the influence of the soaking solution on the open pore size, then explore the effect of uniaxial and biaxial stretching on the opening size of the nonwoven geotextiles, and compare the pore size distribution curves of the capillary flow pore method and the wet sieve method to explore the differences between the two test methods. The effects of uniaxial and biaxial tensile strains on the permeability and porosity of the non-woven geotextile show that the k value and the n value are in direct relationship. Raising the water head will reduce the value of k. If the water permeability of the non-woven geotextile is higher than 0.33 1/s, non-laminar flow must be considered to avoid overestimating the permeability of the geotextile. The results of the permeability test are compared with the prediction formula of Giroud (1996). It can be obtained that the k value will decrease with the increase of the water head under the same porosity, which means that if Giroud (1996) prediction formula is used under the condition of high hydraulic gradient, This will make the error larger at lower hydraulic gradients. The shape correction factor β of Wu & Hong (2016) is brought into the prediction formula of Giroud (1996), and the result of the modified β prediction formula is more accurate than the prediction formula of Giroud (1996). The predictive formula is feasible under the condition that the n value is changed by tensile strain, but the influence of the water head on the predictive formula must be considered. Therefore, a new relationship between β value and n value is proposed in this experiment according to different water heads. Galwick has better repeatability than water and has a wider measurement range. When the capillary flow porometry is performed with water as the immersion liquid, the dry curve of the non-woven fabric must be measured before the wet curve can be measured, so as to prevent the liquid from being difficult to be excluded in the small pores of the fabric fibers, which will cause errors in the dry curve after measurement. Measure non-woven fabrics with an opening size greater than 80 μm. Considering the problem of saturation loss, the largest opening size of each pore size distribution curve under the same sample should be used as the most representative pore size distribution curve for this sample. The comparison of the pore size distribution curves between the capillary flow porometry and the wet sieve method shows that the wet sieve method above O80 is consistent with Galwick's experimental results. The opening size of the wet sieve method which is gradually reduced from O80 to O50 will be between water and Galwick. From O50 to O15, the opening size of the wet sieve method will gradually approach the test results of water. |
