||In the condition of media evolution towards digitalizing development, the extension from two-dimensional drawing towards three-dimensional form ex-ploration, causing architectural design and manufacturing process disconnect-ed, the use of latest design media often difficult to be fabricated, resulting the idea remains in the virtual computer screen. This approach to digital design is mired in a virtual situation that does not take into account the real materials, gravity, scales, which also shows the importance of digital manufacturing. Thus, this study is to explore the possibility of digital architecture to turn into a real building.
This study mainly focuses on the method of folding in digital manufacturing, and through computer-aided design to bridge computer-aided manufacturing, and finally completed with a large-scale pavilion. In the course of research and development, two approaches were attempted：The top-down methodology, starting with a determined three-dimensional body, and the bottom-up meth-odology, starting with a two-dimensional plane. The difference between these two methods is that the former can predict the final folding form, while the lat-ter is more unpredictable, generated simply by the action of a folding force that produces the geometric pattern.
The purpose of the study of folding in architecture is not to obtain a model of hand-origami, but to construct the process with the logic of folding, to create a rich architectural space or surface, and the ultimate purpose is to actual con-struction. Therefore, the study of the folding process is more inclined to com-bine the actual design rather than just discussing the shape, but in fact, the process of folding is full of architectural meanings. Therefore, in the early stages of design development, a reference to the traditional origami process and com-bined with parametric modelling Grasshopper and its plug-ins to carry out "folding" research. In the operational of above two design methodologies, it is expecting to generate outcome based on the aforementioned design research and finally to derive a design prototype system by folding action, practice from parametric design to digital manufacturing in a complete process, finally to al-low public’s involvement in their own exploration and manufacturing.
