本研究通過對浙北蘇南水系發達地區城鎮公共空間塑造的方式的解析，從而提煉出該地區的場所精神；通過對公共活動的產生與發展的整理分析來整理出屬於該地區的公共活動與視覺美學，從而探究該地區水系發達的現代都市的公共活動以及公共空間與該地區傳統公共空間以及活動的關係，為日後該地區都市公共空間的塑造提供理論基礎。
本研究首先以批判性地域主義，場所精神以及文化生態學為理論基礎，透過相關的歷史文獻回顧以及當地居民的訪問，對浙北蘇南地區城市公共空間案例進行文本分析和現況分析。由此得出浙北蘇南地區歷來都是公共活動豐富的地區，居民日常的生產活動與休閒活動都在公共空間中發生，而目前該地區的城市公共空間並不適用於當地居民。
其次通過對該地區的歷史的回顧，從生產，自然條件，居民生活狀態等條件分析得出浙北蘇南地區歷來的文化內核中都包含了開放，靈活，變化的特性，這種特性使得該地區的場所精神有很強的繼承性。因此，通過對該地區過去水鄉城鎮公共空間與活動的現場調查與資料整理重繪，將該地區不同的公共日常活動根據其不同的活動特性整理為：民居角落空間，河流河埠空間，陰影空間三大類。
本研究結論係提出對於浙北蘇南地區公共空間的三個發現：
1. 水鄉公共空間的場所內涵應是浙北蘇南當代城市公共空間設計的基礎。
2. 浙北蘇南地區居民發展出的人文風格係由該地區的自然條件導致，其乃影響該地區公共空間與活動的決定因素。
3. 水鄉公共空間的重要三元素為：聚落街道夾角，河埠河岸，陰影遮蔽。

Abstract
Through the analysis of the shaping way of urban public space in the developed areas of north Zhejiang and south Jiangsu, the study refined the spirit of place in this area; through the sort and analyses of the emergence and development of public activities, the study sorted out the public activities and visual aesthetics belonging to this area, in order to explore the public activities of modern cities with developed water systems in this area, as well as the relationship between the public space and the traditional public space and activities in this area, which provides theoretical basis for the shaping of urban public space in this area in the future.
Based on critical regionalism, the genius loci and cultural ecology, this study made textual analysis and current situation analysis of urban public space cases in north Zhejiang and south Jiangsu by reviewing relevant historical literature and visiting local residents. It was concluded that north Zhejiang and south Jiangsu had always been the places that have rich public activities, and the daily production and leisure activities of residents occurred in public space. However the present urban public space in this area is not suitable for local residents.
Secondly, by reviewing the history of this area, from the analysis of production, natural conditions and living conditions of residents, it was concluded that the cultural core of north Zhejiang and south Jiangsu had always included the characteristics of openness, flexibility and change, which made the spirit of place in this area have a strong inheritance. Therefore, through the on-site investigation and sorting and re-mapping of the data in the public space and activities in the past water village in this area, the different public daily activities in this area were sorted out according to their different activity characteristics into three categories: residential corner space, river port space and shadow space.
The conclusions of this study are three discoveries of public space in north Zhejiang and south Jiangsu.
1. The place connotation of water village public space should be the basis of contemporary urban public space design in north Zhejiang and south Jiangsu.
2. The humanistic style developed by the residents in north Zhejiang and south Jiangsu is caused by the natural conditions of the area, which is the decisive factor affecting the public space and activities in the area.
3. The three important elements of the water village public space are: corner of the settlement street, river port and river bank and shadow covering.
