中國經常巧妙的運用對外投資作為經濟手段影響他國政治行為。本論文藉由分析中國改革開放後至今對外投資的發展進程，了解中國政府在不同國家發展階段、及面對不同國際政經情勢下的作為。接著再聚焦中國與非洲國家的經貿投資，中國透過援助及投資強化雙方的外交關係。然而，這樣的做法也引來了「債務外交」及「新殖民主義」等批評。許多國際組織、學者等也針對中國對非洲的投資行為提出看法，認為長期的負面影響將更甚於短期利益。本論文以肯亞作為中國對外投資的個案分析，描述中國的經濟手段。最後，非洲長期對中國的經貿投資依賴，使非洲國家經濟發展受限，更引發國家安全問題。

China has been an adept user of FDI to exercise impact on other countries. This thesis analyzes the development of China’s FDI since the era of “Reform and  Opening.” It focuses on Sino-African trade relations. China has complemented the formal diplomatic relations with economic assistance and investment. While Chi-na’s economic statecraft toward African countries has some intended positives ef-fects, it also incurred criticisms like “debt-trap diplomacy” and “neo-                      colonialism.” Many international organizations and experts think the negative       impacts in the long run will outweigh the short-term benefits. I use Kenya as a case study to illustrate China’s economic statecraft. The thesis concludes that Chi-na’s FDI in Africa is complicated by many socio-economic-politic conditions al-ready existing in recipient African countries and complicating them as well.
